Susmita Adhikari highlights 'Passive 100G DC Interconnection' at the Data Centre World.At the Data Centre World in Frankfurt, Susmita Adhikari, Product Placement Manager at Cube Optics spoke about 'Passive 100G DC Interconnection: Challenges and Solutions' on Wednesday November 11 at the conference.
She outlined why the invention of optical amplifiers ushered the proliferation of WDM technology in network architectures, boosting high capacity transmission with multiple 10 Gbps and/or 40 Gbps services per fiber. The non-stop boom in bandwidth-intense applications necessitates deployment of even higher capacity WDM systems not only in long haul but also in metro data center interconnect systems.
For the migration to 100G DC-metro networks, economic viability is of paramount importance together with greater space, power and bandwidth efficiency. It is essential that the upgrade is inherently flexible to further accommodate newer equipment as per demand and supports lower latency.
This presentation provided a primer in current 100G technology developments, with a focus on the two market available 100G transport approaches: multicarrier direct detection and single carrier coherent. Additionally, different application scenarios with hybrid 10G/100G and multiple 100G transmissions are discussed elucidating fiber impairments and compensation techniques.
